"Belcaro" is Italian for “beautiful dear one.”

Lawrence C. Phipps, early resident of the area, former treasurer of Carnegie Steel and U.S. Senator, named the neighborhood this because of its beauty.

His interest in the area deepened as he built the $310,063 Georgian mansion designed by Charles A. Platt and his sons. The mansion’s 33,123 square feet houses 54 rooms. In the mid-1960s, the mansion became part of the University of Denver. The university uses it as a museum and conference center.

This beautiful neighborhood is bounded by Exposition Avenue, Colorado Boulevard, Tennessee Avenue and Steele Street, and is south of the Cherry Creek neighborhood.
